VICTORIAN CHARACTER ENHANCED THROUGH CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
This project involved the addition of a single-storey rear extension to a Victorian property, designed to create a generous open-plan kitchen and dining space better suited to contemporary family life. The new extension introduces a lighter, more open character to the rear of the house, with large Crittall-style glazed doors forming a strong visual connection between the interior and garden. Internally, the space is defined by a warm and refined material palette, combining timber flooring, traditional-style cabinetry and carefully considered lighting with the clean lines of the new glazing. Rooflights bring additional natural light into the deeper parts of the plan, while the black-framed doors provide a contemporary contrast to the character of the original property. The result is a bright and welcoming extension that enhances the way the home is used day to day, while creating a considered balance between Victorian character and contemporary design.
